Calculators
Free geotechnical and civil engineering calculators
Free geotechnical and hydraulic calculators: retaining walls, bearing capacity, piles, earth pressure, Manning's equation and the soil laboratory tests.
Free, with no account, in English and in Spanish.
Design, on Rischio's engine
They calculate with the same engine as the studio, every equation and assumption in sight and the model drawn.
- Retaining wallA cantilever or gravity wall's earth pressure and its overturning, sliding, bearing and eccentricity checks.
- Manning's equationThe normal depth for a flow, or the flow at a depth, in an open channel, with its velocity, Froude number and critical depth.
- Bearing capacityA footing's ultimate and allowable bearing capacity, by the general equation and by Terzaghi.
- Lateral earth pressureRankine's and Coulomb's coefficients and the active, at-rest and passive thrusts of a backfill on a vertical wall.
- Pile capacityA pile's shaft and toe resistance through clay and sand, its ultimate capacity and a group's, block failure included.
Soil laboratory
The soil laboratory tests' calculations, by their ASTM standards, each with its lesson in the Academy.
- Phase relationsA specimen's void ratio, porosity, degree of saturation and densities, from its size, its masses and Gs.
- Sieve analysisThe percent passing, the grading curve, D10, D30, D60, Cu and Cc, and the gravel, sand and fines of a sample.
- Hydrometer analysisThe grain size curve of the fines: each reading's diameter by Stokes' law and its percent finer, with a 151H or 152H.
- Atterberg limitsThe liquid limit from the flow curve, the plastic and shrinkage limits, the plasticity index and the liquidity index.
- USCS classificationA soil's USCS group symbol and name, from its grading and its Atterberg limits, with its point on the plasticity chart.
- Proctor compactionThe compaction curve, the maximum dry density and the optimum moisture content of a standard or modified Proctor test.
- Specific gravityThe specific gravity of the soil solids, Gs, from a pycnometer test, corrected to 20 °C.
- Direct shearThe Mohr-Coulomb envelope of a direct shear test, fitted by least squares: cohesion, friction angle and R².
When the calculation is a project
In the studio you keep the model, change it on the drawing, describe a new case in a sentence and get the calculation report, every step shown.
