Warnings
What each warning on a footing means: resultant outside the base, base lift-off, bearing stratum, settlement and unusual values.
The method behind these warnings is in Bearing capacity and Settlement.
- Resultant outside the base ( or ): the footing overturns. There is no contact pressure or bearing capacity, and the bearing check fails with .
- Base lift-off (): the resultant is outside the middle third across the width () or along the length (), or the two eccentricities together lift a corner (). That edge or corner loses contact with the soil.
- Bearing stratum below the top one: the base rests on a deeper stratum, named in the warning, and uses its and .
- Settlement not computed: the strata it lists have no and , so there is no settlement check.
- Consolidation not included: it comes with every settlement result, since is the elastic part only.
- Unusual friction angle ( above 45°) or unusual elastic modulus (below 1 MPa or above 200 MPa): possible, but more often a typo. The calculation runs, and the warning points at the stratum.
